This study explores the psycho-social needs of family caregivers (FCGs) of persons with spinal cord injury (PwSCI) in India. It uses a qualitative approach, involving face-to-face interviews with sixteen FCGs to understand their experiences and challenges. The research identifies key themes related to the needs of these caregivers, including awareness needs (understanding the illness), resource needs (financial and practical support), and personal care needs (time for themselves and managing emotions). The findings aim to help design tailored psycho-social interventions for FCGs of PwSCI in India, emphasizing the importance of addressing their specific needs to improve their well-being and the care they provide.
The study's findings can inform the design of specific interventions to address the unique psycho-social needs of FCGs of PwSCI in India.
The results can be used to modify hospital administration procedures and caregiver programs within neurological rehabilitation services.
The research emphasizes the need for a multidisciplinary team to address the identified psycho-social needs during hospitalization and post-discharge.
