Acute flaccid myelitis (AFM) is a rare but serious condition that primarily affects children, leading to muscle weakness and sometimes paralysis. This study looks at the bone health of children with AFM. The study found that many children with AFM have low bone mass, which can increase their risk of fractures. The study also found connections between muscle mass, bone density, and how well the children could move. The findings suggest that doctors should carefully monitor the bone health of children with AFM and try to help them build and maintain muscle mass to protect their bones.
Regular bone health monitoring is crucial for children with AFM.
Efforts should be made to maximize muscle mass in children with AFM.
Weight-bearing activities should be encouraged to improve bone density.
