This study explores if combining acupuncture with standard rehabilitation helps people recover from traumatic spinal cord injuries. Patients were split into two groups: one received both acupuncture and rehabilitation, while the other received only rehabilitation. The researchers then compared how well each group recovered. The results showed that those who received acupuncture in addition to rehabilitation experienced better improvements in bladder control, motor function, and overall quality of life compared to those who only received rehabilitation.
The combination of acupuncture and rehabilitation can lead to better recovery outcomes for patients with traumatic spinal cord injuries, particularly in terms of urinary function and motor skills.
Integrating acupuncture into rehabilitation programs can improve the overall well-being and mental health of SCI patients, aiding their reintegration into social activities.
The study supports the wider adoption of acupuncture as a valuable treatment option in SCI rehabilitation, warranting further research into its underlying mechanisms.
