Frailty is a condition where elderly individuals have reduced functional reserves, making them vulnerable to stressors and hindering their ability to return to a balanced state. Rehabilitation plays a crucial role in managing frailty by reducing disability and improving the quality of life for frail patients. Rehabilitation strategies in geriatric care can decrease disability, delay the progression of chronic diseases, reduce the burden on healthcare systems, and enhance the quality of life for elderly individuals experiencing frailty. Early rehabilitation interventions for prefrail individuals can prevent the aggravation of disabilities and avoid social isolation by identifying deficiencies and increasing intervention compliance.
Implement rehabilitation programs during the early stages of pre-frailty to prevent the progression of disabilities and social isolation.
Utilize comprehensive geriatric assessments (CGA) to identify medical, psychosocial, functional, and environmental problems in frail individuals, guiding personalized treatment plans.
Adopt interdisciplinary interventions, such as the FIT program, that integrate exercise, nutritional support, and geriatrician/physiatrist consultations to address frailty effectively.
