This study explores how individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI) manage their health and psychological well-being to maintain employment after their injury. The research highlights that emotional adjustment, gaining self-confidence, preventing burnout, and maintaining a positive attitude are crucial for successful employment among individuals with SCI. The findings suggest that policies supporting the emotional and psychological health of individuals with SCI can improve their employment outcomes and overall life expectancy.
Policies should be revised to eliminate financial disincentives that hinder individuals with SCI from pursuing full-time employment and maximizing their earnings, which can improve their life expectancy.
Rehabilitation programs should incorporate comprehensive mental health support and coping skills training to address emotional adjustment, build self-confidence, and prevent burnout among individuals with SCI.
Employers should foster supportive work environments that accommodate the unique needs of individuals with SCI, promote open communication, and provide access to resources that enhance their psychological and emotional well-being.
