This study explores how digital work can help people with spinal cord injuries (SCI) find employment. It looks at the experiences of four individuals in Thailand who have found various types of digital work. The study highlights that digital work can overcome physical barriers for individuals with SCI, providing them with opportunities to earn income and improve their quality of life. However, it also acknowledges potential risks such as decreased social interaction and health complications. The researchers suggest that healthcare providers should play a role in facilitating digital work for people with SCI by providing guidance, monitoring for potential complications, and assisting with access to digital devices and communication services.
Healthcare providers should integrate digital work opportunities into vocational rehabilitation programs for people with SCI.
Healthcare providers should monitor individuals with SCI engaged in digital work for potential health complications, such as pressure injuries, and provide appropriate interventions.
Governments and organizations should develop policies and support systems to facilitate digital work for people with disabilities, including access to technology and training.
