This case report looks at how long-term treadmill training with body weight support affects someone with an incomplete spinal cord injury. The study followed a 68-year-old man who had an incomplete spinal cord injury. The man used a special treadmill at home for over 10 years. Researchers looked at his walking ability and how well his lower body worked. The study found that the man's physical function in his legs either got better, stayed the same, or declined slower than expected for up to 9.5 years after his injury.
BWSTT at home is a feasible long-term rehabilitation option for patients with incomplete SCI.
The concrete, measurable goals in BWSTT can improve and maintain patient motivation.
BWSTT can provide long-term benefits in physical function, even in elderly individuals with SCI.
