This study examines the presence of PTSD symptoms in individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI) during acute trauma care. Identifying these symptoms early could help reduce the long-term negative impact. The study found that a significant percentage of SCI patients in acute care showed signs of PTSD, particularly those with a pre-existing history of psychological disorders. The findings suggest that screening for PTSD symptoms in acute trauma care settings is crucial for SCI patients, and cognitive behavioral interventions should be provided to those presenting with symptoms.
Implement routine screening for PTSD symptoms in acute trauma care settings for SCI patients.
Provide cognitive behavioral interventions to SCI patients presenting with PTSD symptoms, particularly those with a history of psychological disorders.
Integrate mental health professionals into trauma care teams to address psychological needs early in the rehabilitation process.
