This study examines pregnancy in women with spinal cord injuries, noting that while healthy children are possible, significant risks and special needs exist. Autonomic hyperreflexia is a complication that can occur during pregnancy in women with spinal cord injuries, especially those with injuries above T-6. It is triggered by stimuli below the injury level. Urinary tract management during pregnancy for women with SCI involves various methods, including normal voiding, Crede's method, intermittent catheterization, Foley catheter, suprapubic catheter, and ileal conduit.
Pregnant women with SCI require specialized medical care and monitoring due to the increased risks of complications.
Developing a detailed delivery plan, including proximity to medical facilities and anesthesia considerations, is crucial for managing potential emergencies.
Hospital staff must be educated about the specific needs and management of pregnant women with SCI to ensure appropriate care and prevent complications.
