People with spinal cord injuries are prone to developing secondary health conditions, such as pressure ulcers and urinary tract infections, which can lead to rehospitalization and even death. This study aims to understand the factors that influence the prevention of these secondary health conditions in individuals with spinal cord injuries. The research will involve reviewing patient records, conducting interviews, and developing a model of care to help prevent these secondary conditions.
Clinicians can use the data from this study for screening and developing prevention strategies for commonly experienced secondary health conditions.
Policy makers can use the study findings to inform health-promoting policies and improve the model of care for persons living with spinal cord injuries.
The insight gained from this study will contribute to the body of knowledge on secondary complications experienced by people living with spinal cord injuries.
