This study evaluates sacral neuromodulation (SNM) therapy for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) caused by neurological diseases in Saudi Arabia. The study involved a two-stage procedure: a test phase (stage 1) to identify the best nerve response, followed by implantation of a permanent device (stage 2) if the patient showed significant improvement. The results showed that SNM significantly improved urinary symptoms and patient satisfaction was high, suggesting it's an effective treatment option for nLUTS.
SNM can be considered as an effective therapy for managing LUTS caused by neurological diseases, particularly in patients who have not responded well to conservative and medical treatments.
Careful patient selection is crucial, as the success rate varies based on the underlying neurological condition and the presence of detrusor-sphincter dyssynergia (DSD).
Larger, multi-center studies are needed to validate these findings and explore the long-term efficacy and safety of SNM for nLUTS in diverse populations.
