This study analyzes data from the National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Center (NSCISC) on over 13,000 individuals with spinal cord injuries since 1973. The data shows improvements in neurologic function and independence in daily activities after rehabilitation. The study also documents decreased hospital stays and increased survival rates for these individuals.
Rehabilitation programs are effective in improving neurologic status and functional independence for individuals with SCI.
The majority of individuals with SCI are able to return to private residences and participate in community life.
Many individuals with SCI can successfully complete their education and return to gainful employment.
