This review examines existing research on Community Occupational Therapy to understand its effectiveness. It looks at studies published between 2007 and 2020, covering various settings like geriatrics and mental health. The review identifies that while research in this field is growing, the studies often have limitations. These include a focus on individual interventions rather than community-wide approaches and a reliance on qualitative research methods. The study concludes that Community Occupational Therapy shows promise, particularly in reducing falls and improving daily living activities for older adults. However, more rigorous research is needed to strengthen the evidence base and improve the consistency of practice.
Future research should focus on enhancing the methodological quality of studies to strengthen the evidence base for Community Occupational Therapy interventions.
Further research is needed in areas like mental health to gather more scientific evidence on the efficacy of occupational therapy interventions.
A clearer and more precise definition of Community Occupational Therapy is needed to guide practice and ensure interventions are community-focused.
