This paper explores the vulnerability experienced by spinal cord-injured patients during rehabilitation and how they find strength to cope with their situation. The study followed 12 patients for two years, observing them in the rehabilitation unit and after they were discharged, using interviews and observations to understand their experiences. The research found that patients' feelings of vulnerability varied, and they drew on their strength to manage the challenges. It suggests that vulnerability is more about the person's experience of their situation.
Professionals should recognize and address the individual experiences of vulnerability in patients with spinal cord injuries.
Healthcare providers should focus on strengthening patients' resources through support from relatives, knowledge, and positive attitudes.
Rehabilitation programs should consider both the physical and mental aspects of recovery, addressing the imbalance between needs and resources.
