This study focuses on chronic neuropathic pain (NeP) in patients with spinal cord damage, defining it as spinal cord-related pain syndrome. A nationwide survey was conducted in Japan to understand the prevalence, characteristics, and treatment of this syndrome. The goal was to gather information for planning effective control measures against spinal cord-related pain syndrome.
Better understanding of the clinical characteristics of spinal cord-related pain syndrome can improve diagnosis.
Tailoring treatment based on the level of pain (at-level vs. below-level) and the type of allodynia may enhance treatment effectiveness.
Considering the potential adverse effects and limited effectiveness of some medications, exploring alternative and multidisciplinary approaches is crucial.
