This study explores the relationship between neuropathic pain (NP) and functional recovery in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). The research indicates that NP is independently associated with better functional recovery in SCI patients. This suggests a 'bright side' to this complication. The findings may help to alleviate the psychological burden of NP patients and ultimately restore their confidence in rehabilitation.
Alleviating the psychological burden of SCI patients experiencing neuropathic pain by highlighting its association with better functional outcomes.
Tailoring rehabilitation strategies to leverage the potential for improved functional recovery in SCI patients with NP.
Encouraging clinicians to view neuropathic pain not only as a negative consequence of SCI but also as a potential indicator of preserved neural pathways and a predictor of functional improvement.
