Amniotic membrane tissue has been considered to potentially enhance healing in various soft tissue conditions. Recent studies suggest its therapeutic potential for spinal pathologies. This review summarizes existing research on the clinical use of amniotic membrane-derived agents and their impact on outcomes after spinal surgery. The systematic review provides a summary of the existing literature regarding the use of amniotic membrane preparations, treatment regimens, and indications within spinal surgery.
Provides a concise summary on the outcomes and indications associated with amniotic membrane products, useful given the growing popularity of these agents in orthopedic and neurologic surgery.
Highlights the need for further research to determine whether the application of amniotic tissues is appropriate in the clinical setting.
Helps clinicians understand the potential benefits of amniotic membrane-derived products in reducing epidural adhesions and scar tissue, improving spinal fusion rate and postoperative pain scores, and promoting better functional outcomes after spine surgery.
