This study aimed to develop a treatment diary for patients undergoing spasticity treatment, including botulinum toxin injections and physiotherapy or occupational therapy. The diary helps track problems caused by muscle overactivity, treatment goals, and patient self-evaluation. The diary includes patient self-evaluation using the Goal Attainment Scale, therapists’ evaluation of objectives, and suggestions for treatment optimization. Patient satisfaction and quality of life were also assessed. Ten patients participated in the pilot study and found the diary helpful in setting goals and increasing involvement in their treatment. However, no significant improvement in their quality of life was reported.
The treatment diary can be used to enhance patient involvement in their spasticity treatment, leading to better treatment outcomes.
Using the diary can facilitate the setting of more appropriate and achievable treatment goals for patients with spasticity.
The treatment diary may lead to a closer collaboration between physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and physicians.
