This study investigates the relationship between abnormal electrocardiogram (ECG) findings and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in individuals with chronic spinal cord injury (SCI) and abnormal lipid profiles. The research found that ECG abnormalities are common in this population, with ST-T wave abnormalities being the most frequently observed. The duration of the spinal cord injury was found to be a significant predictor of abnormal ECG findings, suggesting its importance in cardiovascular health for individuals with SCI.
Individuals with SCI and abnormal lipid profiles should be screened for CVD regardless of age.
Clinicians should recognize injury duration as a crucial factor in CVD risk assessment for individuals with SCI.
Individuals with longer SCI duration require careful monitoring for silent ischemia.
